A key training opportunity (Eliminating Discrimination against Women) has opened up for women who want to deepen their understanding and skills in the fight against gender-based discrimination. The GCED Online Campus is inviting applications for its online course, “Your Role in Eliminating Discrimination against Women,” designed exclusively for women.

This course (Eliminating Discrimination against Women) offers a comprehensive look at feminist activist approaches to eliminating discrimination against women. It aims to bridge the gap between local efforts and global mechanisms designed to support governments in fulfilling their commitments to women.

What You Will Learn

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of critical frameworks and pressing issues. The curriculum covers:

  • Key United Nations mechanisms, including CEDAW (the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women), Special Procedures, the Universal Periodic Review, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Important topics such as the forms and types of Violence Against Women (VAW), particularly intimate partner and sexual violence.
  • Critical areas like Women’s Reproductive Rights and the role of Women in Media.

Meet Your Instructor

The course (Eliminating Discrimination against Women) is led by the distinguished Ivy N Josiah, a Malaysian women’s human rights advocate, gender consultant, and educator. With a strong background in addressing multiple forms of discrimination, she has conducted training in over 31 countries and serves on four international boards related to women’s rights. She is the former President and Executive Director of the Women’s Aid Organisation, bringing a wealth of practical and academic experience to the course.

Course Highlights and Schedule

This is more than just a lecture series; it’s an interactive experience. Course highlights include:

  • Interactive modules featuring case studies, videos, and articles.
  • The chance to create your own advocacy project.
  • An opportunity to contribute to an Online Gender Equality Magazine.
  • Ten live Zoom lectures to engage directly with the instructor and peers.

The course runs from September 1 to October 5. Live sessions are scheduled every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM Korea Standard Time.
